“I heard six powerful voices harmonising and instantly fell in love”

Since it premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, SIX the Musical has taken the world by storm, giving audiences a new perspective of Henry VIII’s infamous six wives – Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr. Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the show takes the six wives of Henry VIII and puts them in the world of a modern pop concert where they are all competing to win the favour of the audience to lead the band. The show has won over 35 international awards and can be seen live on stage worldwide, including in London’s Vaudeville Theatre.
Recently, we had the chance to chat with Reca Oakley, who is making her West End debut as Anna of Cleves, the fourth wife of Henry VIII. We discussed how she first got started in the world of theatre, what it’s been like to be a part of SIX and even why the fans are “arguably the best part of the experience!”
How did you first get involved in the world of theatre?
I got into theatre while I was in high school and never looked back!
What made you want to be a part of SIX?
I first heard SIX whilst rehearsing at the Norwegian Cruise Line creative studios. I heard six powerful voices harmonising and instantly fell in love.
Had you known much about the six wives of Henry VIII before joining SIX?
Thanks to the hit television show The Tudors, I knew some history behind the queens!
What is it like taking on the role of Anna of Cleves, especially as your West End debut?
I was a bit intimidated, not going to lie, but I’m surrounded by an incredible cast and an incredible creative team that helped me along the way. I have to pinch myself sometimes – I’m so blessed.
What’s your favourite fact you’ve learned about Anna of Cleves?
Henry and Cleves shared a great companionship after their divorce!

What has it been like getting to interact with fans of SIX?
Arguably the best part of this experience. I love meeting all supporters of the show and seeing how much this show has impacted people from all walks of life.
Do you have a favourite song or moment from SIX?
My favourite song has to be “The MegaSIX.” We have so much fun interacting with the audience and it really does feel like a concert!
What do you hope audiences take away from SIX?
I hope they feel empowered for sure.
How would you describe SIX in one word?
FIERCE!
SIX is currently running at the Vaudeville Theatre with tickets available through 30 November 2025. Tickets to all international productions of SIX are available here.
